Awe the dog days of summer…..since it’s the hot as hell season now in Texas, we tend to do more chores inside instead of outside; except for the daily water run on what’s left of our potted flowers and a few sprigs of grass left in the yard. I recently took a ‘staycation’ so I could paint my son’s bedroom and do some serious reorganizing in my cozy little house so I never understood why anyone calls summer ‘dog days’ because my dog only sleeps, eats, and poops and I don’t know anyone that has the luxury of a dog’s life.
As I was working on getting my list accomplished, I was bombarded by awful news of teen killings. It’s appalling enough when adults do evil things but I was sickened by the constant news of teens who have turned into killers. Here’s a short list of the most recent ones:
- Eight year old boy shoots and kills grandmother execution style
- Boy kills his 3 nephews
- Beating death of WWII veteran
- Australian jogger killed by bored teens in Oklahoma
The thugs that killed the Australian jogger (Christopher Lane)“because of boredom” are just plain evil. There is no explaining it. But if we look deeper I think we can all agree that this is not another act because of the lack of gun control, but the lack of a dad in the home. Better yet, a dad who loves the Lord. These punks are the result of generational sperm donors who don’t give a damn about the children they produce or have a clue that an emotional engagement is vital to the human soul.
My question is, aren’t your friends and neighbors freaking out about all this stuff? I mean, American culture is out of control and since we’ve ceded most of the responsibility to the schools and the government we are seeing the results, and it isn’t good. I’ve brought this up over and over and it always comes back to the same solution, a return to God.
In the 196o’s the all-knowing Supreme Court struck down a simple prayer in public schools that promoted a good moral character, spiritual training, and helped deter juvenile delinquency, all after only ONE person complained. Since that ruling, our public schools have spiraled down the moral decay we see today. No school and certainly no government can fix this until they return the responsibility back to the parents. The problem is half the parents today do not know how to be parents. They most likely grew up in a single parent home as well and did not have a good example either, but instead of allowing the government to try to fix the problem the neighborhood churches should be doing it.
The church should start a ministry to mentor young boys in fatherless homes and offer young mothers parenting classes. It’s at least a start. At least acknowledge “Houston, we have a problem”! Let us as citizen’s take back the reins. If your family member is a single mother or father then ask to be a part of their lives. Take them fishing, camping, hunting, etc. Watch Duck Dynasty if you need to see how a real family acts together, they are a great example and the reason they are the number one reality cable show today.
Look, I certainly don’t have all the answers, I’m just throwing some things out there…..I just feel like my head is going to explode sometimes and I’m wondering why aren’t we doing something, anything, to win back the culture, which will ultimately win back this nation.
Is it really so controversial to display the 10 Commandments in our schools? We must not be silent anymore. Hundreds of schools are being attacked by atheist groups when only 1 or a few parents complain about God in our schools. Our Constitution is being ripped apart by a few and we must come together and fight for what’s right. Our children need us to.
